Simple Spring Centerpiece
It’s been three wonderful years in Japan, although our journey is slowly coming to an end I know another wonderful one will begin. Spring is only a few weeks away and here the Cherry Blossom Trees are in full bloom, the Sunflowers are standing tall, and as far as you can see, Cosmos flowers are everywhere.
It seems like the whole country is in a collective conspiracy to celebrate spring even before the first blossoms appear outside.
The first sign that spring was approaching here was the displays in stores. Almost overnight, everything has changed to beautiful displays with spring pastel colors, carefully arranged branches with blossoms made of paper and other materials, and ornate Japanese ceremonial dolls.
First, there is Hinamatsuri or Girl’s Day, which is celebrated on March 3, to pray for the health and happiness of young girls in Japan. Soon after arrives “hanami” (cherry blossom viewing).
With a lot already going for spring, the weather has been gloomy. Gray skies, windy nights, and rainy days have taken over the month of February. If you haven’t been following my Instagram @paintmepinkblog, I’ve been sharing more of myself and a little bucket list that I have and want to accomplish before leaving Japan. It started out great I was checking things off left and right then I went to revisit the beautiful sunflower fields that I loved and they had been cut down! All the sunflowers were gone the only thing left was dirt and soil.
Where did all the sunflowers go? Why were they cut down? I may never know the answer to these questions but I was okay with the fact that I was able to see them one last time.
I was really looking forward to decorating with sunflowers this spring… I know sunflowers aren’t really a spring flower, but there’s something about them that makes me smile and since this is our last spring here, I want to keep my decor rather simple. I didn’t want to buy anything new so I used what I already had, minus the fresh flowers. I hope you enjoy this simple spring centerpiece I’ve created.
