Christmas Home Tour 2018
Welcome to my 2018 Christmas home! If you are coming from the ever so talented Kim of Sand & Sisal, welcome to my little blog! If you are just joining in, each day this week there has been a group of talented bloggers sharing their Christmas homes as part of The Happy Housie’s Seasonal Simplicity Christmas Series. Today is my turn and I hope you get the chance to check out Thursdays Christmas homes line up!
I’m also sharing my post at Jennifer Rizzo’s Holiday Housewalk Linky Party 2018.
Many people decorate with things they love, they fill their homes with things that speak to them. For me, I decorate with memories, there’s always a story and meaning expressed in my work. I somehow tap into my past experiences and decorate with it… I know, it sounds a little odd. For instance, let’s take last years Christmas decor, I went light and bright with pops of turquoise. That year we had an amazing summer with the kids and it was a beach day every day! Okinawa Japan has some of the most gorgeous beaches with beautiful turquoise waters. It’s very mesmerizing and the views are surreal. I really wanted to capture that beauty in our home that Christmas. From the turquoise origami cranes to the sand tones our home last year was one of my favorites.
This year, I had to say goodbye to my Sister and I wanted to let you know the reason behind the colors I choose this year.
I decorate a lot with blue colors, but this year is more than just the color blue to me. The blue represents the sadness and loss we’ve gone through these last few months. In a way, it has brought me closer to my family.
Going through the same creative process I normally do, I ended up choosing a gold, a color I’ve never used before. Gold and white symbolize Heaven to me and I know that I will see my sister again someday.
The earth tones, greens, and browns remind me where my sister and I grew up. We had Tall pine trees surrounded by mountains and a lake.
I light this candle every night for her. I am uncertain that I will ever understand why she was taken away, but I do know this; the light that she brought to the world will shine on forever.
Growing up in the mountains we saw a lot of wildlife. I remember going on drives sitting in the back of the car with my Sister, singing Disney songs watching deer run wild in the meadows.
To anyone going through hard times I hope you find your own way of expressing yourself, it is such a good way to find peace and share with others.
I hope you continue on to Place Of My Taste for more holiday inspiration.
Today I’m joined by some talented friends who are also sharing part of their Christmas home tour with you…
